In Austria, accreditation of autogenous vaccines is not mandatory. Hence, there is no assessment of efficaciousness or innocuousness.
Autogenous vaccines must be applied only in livestock or individual animals in which the etiologic agents have been isolated.
Production of autogenous vaccines is subject to regulations (Bestandsspezifische Impfstoffe – Betriebsordnung 2010). Manufacturers require a manufacturing authorisation by the responsible authority (Bundesamt für Sicherheit im Gesundheitswesen). Autogenous vaccines are only distributed to veterinarians.
